The Leader of the Danish People’s Party Pia Kjærsgaard has decided to go to neighbouring Sweden to lend her support to the nationalist Sweden Democrats as the Sept. 19 Swedish general election approaches.

The visit, which will take place for an election meeting in Höganäs on Saturday, comes in the midst of a debate about censorship against and bullying of the Sweden Democrats, and following a vitriolic attack on Denmark and the Danish People’s Party by Sweden’s Social Democratic Leader Mona Sahlin.

“No-one should wish that Sweden becomes like Denmark where they began to cooperate with the Danish People’s Party and politics moved far, far away from what I feel is decent. Never that,” Sahlin said at a recent election meeting.

Pia Kjærsgaard has replied by saying that Sahlin should not meddle in Danish affairs.

“It’s just like (former SocDem Prime Minister) Poul Nyrup when he said that we weren’t decent company. How dare she begin to pull down Denmark like that. If she could be bothered to take care of her own election campaign, that is what I think she should do,” Kjærsgaard says.
