A 19-year-old Copenhagener has been arrested and charged with 173 counts of graffiti vandalism on houses and trains.

The young man is to appear before a magistrate today, with demands that he be remanded in custody, and with the likelihood – if found guilty – of him having to pay some DKK 2.5 million (EUR 335,000) in damages.

Police determined the number of graffiti paintings the 19-year-old had produced by comparing tags and other graffiti. A search of the young man’s home turned up trial tags and over 100 cans of spray-paint as well as a bag containing DSB railways clothing, timetables and draft graffiti.

Two other men aged 27 and 29 are currently on remand on the same type of charges. When police searched their homes, officers found some 300-400 cans of spray-paint and photographs of graffiti on houses and trains.

The two were initially arrested, and their premises searched, in connection with narcotics charges. They are also now facing charges of graffiti vandalism with a demand for damages of some DKK 2.2 million.
