..we have to put more knowledge into their heads in the first years at school.

The government wants the school day to be longer and to stop young pupils getting off school at 12.30 or even earlier, according to Nordjyske.

During a visit in Aalborg yesterday, Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said that he and the government intend to suggest that the number of lessons for junior classes be increased.

Following a report by a special team on the state of state education, the government is to propose an extensive reform this autumn.

“The youngest pupils have two, three or four lessons. That means they get off around noon. Then most of them go to after-school care. But if we want particularly the boys, and most of all immigrant boys to get through school better, we have to put more knowledge into their heads in the first years at school,” the prime minister says.

According to Nordjyske he says that not all of the extra lessons have to be held in the classroom.

“I think it would benefit learning if during the day there is time to go for a run or do something else that prepares the brain for more knowledge,” Løkke Rasmussen says.
