Denmark’s newest members of its royal family have been christened, with the national suspense of the names of the baby prince and princess released.

Christened in the Holmens Church in Copenhagen on the arms of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, Prince Vincent Frederik Minik Alexander was christened first, with Princess Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda immediately after.

The twins were baptised by Royal Confessor Bishop Erik Norman Svendsen in the same 17th century baptismal font used to christen all royal children since 1671, including their father Crown Prince Frederik as well as and their grandmother Queen Margrethe II.

Present at the ceremony, held in the naval Holmens Church in central Copenhagen, were Queen Margrethe and her Royal Consort Prince Henrik as well as Australia-born Crown Princess Mary's father John Donaldson.

Godparents to the two children included Princess Marie, wife of Crown prince Frederik's younger brother Prince Joachim, Prince Charles de Bourbon des Deux-Siciles, Count Bent Wedel, Crown Prince Felipe of Asturias, Prince Gustav zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and the Baroness Helle Reedtz-Thott.

The Spanish crown prince was, however, unable to attend and was therefore godfather in absentia to Prince Vincent.
