Right-wing anti-Islamist groups from across Europe are planning to meet in Aarhus for what the organisers say is the start of a European movement, according to Britain’s The Daily Telegraph.

According to the report, more than 10 anti-Islamist groups, led by the English Defence League plan to send representatives to the meeting at the end of March.

"There will be speeches from every defence league in Europe. I hope we can show that there's resistance against the Islamisation of Europe, that we can inspire each other," Isak Nygren, the spokesman for the Swedish Defence League tells the Daily Telegraph.

Stephen Lennon, who formed the English Defence League three years ago said the meeting on March 31 would be the first real European event for the organisation.

"We're hoping this will be the launch of a wider European Defence League. We don't expect it to be big, but our first event wasn't that big, and they're just going to get bigger and bigger,” Lennon tells the DT.

In Denmark, the Danish Defence League claims to have increased its membership by 60 per cent in the past six months, saying it now has 1,600 both active and passive subscription-paying members. Membership numbers cannot be checked independently, as the organisation’s membership lists are confidential.

The Modkraft.dk site says that the anti-Islamic meeting will be met with protests from organisations and left-leaning parties in Aarhus.

“We will not let this take place unnoticed. It is important to send a clear message that there are many of us who do not share their views,” Sarah Victoria Bruun of the Anti-racist Network tells Modkraft.
