The Great Belt Bridge has been closed for all motor traffic as a result of ice falling from bridge cables.

“When the temperature rises, there is a risk that ice falls onto the bridge which can be very dangerous,” says Great Belt Communication Consultant Helena Restrup.

No accidents have been reported on the bridge as a result of melting ice, but it is unclear when the bridge will reopen.

“Right now we are investigating how serious the problem is,” says Restrup.

The Road Directorate says that no other bridges in the country are being closed as a result of cascading ice.
