The Eastern High Court in Copenhagen is under extra security in connection with a gang-related hearing, with police having found three knives and an axe under cars nearby.

“We have found three knives and an axe under cars in the area,” says Copenhagen Police Duty Officer Henrik Olesen. No-one has been arrested, but several in a group who had arrived to enter the court were wearing bullet-proof vests.

The case concerns an episode at the Vridsløselille Prison in which a chisel was used on another inmate.

“We have had a group of some 30 people who could be gang-related and sympathisers. We have been down there to make sure there is no more trouble,” Olesen says, adding officers are determining whether the weapons found were brought into the area by members of the group.

“We are working on the assumption that (the weapons) were brought in by the groups. No-one has been put in connection with them, but we are checking using DNA, CCTV and questioning,” Olesen says.

Following questioning, the group will be released and sent out of the area.

The incident comes following two other incidents this week in which two prisoners managed to escape from custody in a courthouse on Blegdamsvej.
