Danish police arrested two Danish-Somali brothers on Monday evening on charges of conspiracy to commit a terrorist act, and in the case of one of the brothers of having received training at an al-Shabaab camp in Somalia.

One of the brothers was detained on arrival at Copenhagen’s international Kastrup Airport while the other was detained in Aarhus. The brothers are 18 and 23 years old, have Danish passports and have been in the country for some 16 years.

The Danish Security and Intelligence Agency PET says that by arresting the two it believes it has “prevented a concrete terrorist act,” although the agency does not mention what it believes to be the target for the foiled attack.

“(They) are suspected of being in the process of preparing a terrorist act, through, among other things, discussions about methods, targets and use of weapons; and one of those arrested is also under suspicion of having received training or instruction at an al-Shabaab training camp in Somalia, with a further view to carrying out terrorist acts,” PET says.

The two brothers, both of whom live in Aarhus, are currently being interrogated prior to being presented in a remand hearing later today.
