Finance Minister Bjarne Corydon is stopping the tripartite negotiations between the government, unions and employers.

The decision to drop the negotiations comes following the announcement by the Danish Steelworkers Union that it is not prepared to negotiate axing public holidays or vacation leave as part of the discussions.

The tripartite negotiations have been designed to increase working hours and thus generate some DKK4billion for public coffers in increased revenues. Without plans to axe one or two public holidays and curb vacation leave on the table, the government sees little chance of reaching its targets.

According to politiken.dk’s information the government believes that other unions can be expected to follow suit with the Steelworkers Union, removing the basis for further negotiations in the group.

The breakdown in tripartite negotiations leaves the government some DKK4billion short in its 2020 Plan.
