The Danish Meteorological Institute has issued a heavy rain warning .

DMI says up to 35 mm of rain – or half of June’s normal rainfall – can be expected this afternoon and evening spreading to most parts of the country from the southwest.

“We have chosen to issue a heavy rain warning as we expect between 25 and 25 mm of rain in connection with a thunderstorm. There is a risk that low-lying areas such as basements may be flooded. And with this sort of thundery weather, torrential rain is a possibility,” says DMI Spokesman Klaus Larsen.

So far, the thunderstorm has dropped up to 25 mm of rain on Germany and is expected to get worse as it moves first into southern Jutland and then reach Southern Funen at around 2 p.m.

The storm will have arrived in Copenhagen at around 4 p.m. as other parts of the system close in from the North Sea to drench Northern Jutland.

The storm is expected to reach Bornholm and the northern parts of Zealand in the early evening.

“I would have thought that it will be over in the Copenhagen region at about 9 p.m.,” Larsen says.
