The number of bank robberies in Denmark appears to be dropping considerably, according to Financial Services Union Denmark (FSUD).

In the First Quarter of this year, 21 bank robberies were registered – a reduction of 36 and 61 per cent compared with 2011 and 2010.

“It’s terrible as a bank employee to be subjected to a robbery. Many are affected for a long time afterwards and some are disabled for the rest of their lives,” FSUD Deputy Chairwoman Solveig Ørteby tells Nyhedsbrevet Finans, adding she hopes figures will continue to drop.

The FSUB, which is the bank employee union, estimates that a quarter of its members at some time in their working lives will be affected by a robbery – either because they are victims themselves or because they have colleagues who are victims of a bank robbery.

The reduction in the number of bank robberies comes after banks and financial institutions have introduced preventive measures.

Till-free branches, CCTV and delayed payment tills all seem to have had their effect.
