The Liberal Party has had a change of heart and says it will, after all, turn up at the Finance Ministry to negotiate a tax reform with Finance Minister Bjarne Corydon.

According to the reports, the Liberal Party Leader Lars Løkke Rasmussen has sent a letter to Economy Minister Margrethe Vestager and a message to Corydon informing the two that a Liberal team will be arriving for negotiations today.

The party is prepared to discuss reform issues based on the negotiating paper that it presented to the government last weekend.

The change in signals from the Liberal Party comes after widespread criticism of the party, not least from the Conservative Party Chairman Lars Barfoed, who said it was silly that Lars Løkke Rasmussen suddenly announced that he was after all prepared to discuss the framework for tax reform negotiations with the prime minister in Rio de Janeiro where the two are attending the UN Rio summit. The prime minister declined.

The Liberal move to arrive for negotiations today is a full about-face from announcements by Group Chairman Kristian Jensen who said that given that the prime minister was not prepared to negotiate tax issues with Lars Løkke Rasmussen in Rio, the party was not prepared to enter into negotiations.

In an interview on TV2 last evening, however, Lars Løkke Rasmussen said that the Liberals were prepared to make a final effort to reach agreement with the government, and would be arriving at the Finance Ministry today.
