Southern and western regions of Denmark awoke this morning to thunder, lightning and tropical downpours.

From midnight and up to 8 a.m. this morning, 10,125 bolts of lightning were registered, predominantly in Jutland and on Funen. Some of the bolts caused fires.

Funen police reported a semi-detached house on fire, but firemen were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring houses. No-one was hurt.

Heavy rain and torrential downpours are spreading north and east to the rest of the country, with warnings of cloudbursts in all affected regions.

This afternoon a warm front is developing in the rest of Europe which is expected to cause yet another wave of heavy rain across Denmark this evening.

Eastern regions are therefore most likely to get another round of heavy rain this evening.
