SydBank is to be the first major Danish bank to offer a choice of kroner or euro in its ATMs, making it possible to draw euro outside normal banking hours, according to Frederiksborg Amts Avis.

“There is a single regional bank that has done this, but we are the first major bank to do so,” says SydBank Hillerød Branch Manager Henrik Følbæk Nielsen.

Last year, some 190,000 customers came into SydBank branches to withdraw euro and the bank is hoping to be able to service them in ATMs instead.

“We strive to be a modern bank that uses the facilities that are available,” Følbæk Nielsen says.

The bank has tested its system over the past three months in its southern Jutland branches. Sydbank has more than 100 branches spread across Denmark. In North Zealand Sydbank has branches in Hillerød and Hørsholm.
