Although the Danish state railways (DSB) has gradually begun to get its troublesome IC4 train sets back on the rails, unpaid bills are mounting up as DSB is ignoring invoices on all new IC4 and IC2 trains from the Italian transport engineering company AnsaldoBreda, according to Ingeniøren.dk.

According to Ingeniøren’s information, which has not been confirmed by either DSB or the Transport Ministry, DSB has not been transferring funds to AnsaldoBreda despite the fact that IC4 and IC2 trains have been delivered.

DSB’s problem is that AnsaldoBreda has failed to deliver train sets as agreed, with Ingeniøren saying that as of mid-May the Italian producers were 15 IC4 sets and 10 IC2 sets behind schedule.

According to the report, the trains are not only rolling in late, but are also of a lower quality than agreed in a 2009 settlement between DSB and AnsaldoBreda.

Although there are suggestions that a new delivery schedule could be agreed with AnsaldoBreda, DSB on the other hand would be looking for financial compensation.

In the latest memorandum to the parliamentary Traffic Committee, DSB writes:

“The negotiations are slow. DSB is waiting for a workable proposal from AnsaldoBreda management as to how the process can be revitalised.”
