A 19-year-old woman, who ignored warnings and climbed up onto a railway carriage, hit an live overhead cable at Roskilde station, but has survived the 25,000 volt shock.

The national hospital Rigshospitalet says the young woman is in a stable condition, but lucky to be alive, according to Roskilde Dagblad.

“Not many people survive. You risk your internal organs being so damaged that you cannot survive,” says BaneDanmark’s High Voltage Section Chief Kjeld Laxy Andresen.

Laxy Andrsen says that if the electrical shock travels into internal organs, chances of survival are slim. But if the shock passes over the body externally – for example if a person has been sweating a lot, internal organs are not damaged to the same degree.
