All eight Danish parliamentary parties have signed an appeal to the King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa of Bahrain to release the Danish-Bahraini dissident Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, following a civilian appeals court decision earlier today to confirm the life sentence handed down by a military court last year.

The letter also calls for the release of al-Khawaja’s daughter Zainab.

“We are highly disappointed that the court review of Abdulhadi al-Khawaja’s judgment has not resulted in his unconditional release. We urge His Majesty to pardon Abdulhadi al-Khawaja,” the letter signed by all eight foreign policy spokesmen says.

Abdulhadi al-Khawaja was arrested last year and found guilty of sedition. Al-Khawaja went on unger strike for 110 days earlier this year.

His daughter Zainab is also in prison after being found guilty of assaulting a police officer and for trying to arrange an illegal demonstration.
