NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen says that the number of attacks against NATO soldiers by Afghans is ‘worrying’ but that the alliance is doing what it can to stop them.

“We are doing everything we can with our Afghan partners to reduce the risks as much as we can,” Fogh Rasmussen says during his monthly news conference, adding that NATO carries out extensive investigations into each killing.

US forces in Afghanistan decided recently to suspend the training of Afghan recruits until they have been checked for relations with the Taleban.

The attacks notwithstanding, Fogh Rasmussen says that the training of the Afghan forces is progressing well.

“Afghan forces are becoming more professional, confident and better-armed. Within a few weeks they will have reached their full strength of 352,000, Fogh Rasmussen says.
