Another possible candidate for the post of chairman of the Socialist People’s Party hs announced he is not a candidate.

“I am not a candidate,” says party Finance Spokesman Jonas Dahl, 34, adding that he wants to spend time with his family.

“At the moment, that is more important to me,” Dahl says.

Dahl is the latest of a group of prominent SF figures who have said they are not interested in the post of chairman following the announcement last Friday by Villy Søvndal that he is stepping down as leader of the Socialist People’s Party, but remaining in the post of foreign minister.

Environment Minister Ida Auken, Tax Minister Thor Möger Pedersen, Trade Minister Pia Olsen dyrh and Mayor Mette Touborg have all said that they are not candidates for the post.

Astrid Krag, who has been mooted as the most likely candidate for the post, has not yet definitely said she is a candidate. If she decides to stand for election she has already received the support of several senior party members.

Dahl says he is not yet prepared to say who he supports for the leadership.

“I will be happy to comment when people announce their candidacy, and next Friday I will be happy to say who I support. But I find it strange to make a statement about candidates who have not said they are candidates,” Dahl says.

He adds that he expects there to be several candidates for the post.

“Otherwise Villy would almost have to continue as chairman,” Dahl says.

Earlier today the SF Parliamentary Group Chairwoman Pernille Vigsø Bagge announced that she will be resigning as chair of the group and will not be seeking re-election at the next general election.
