Copenhagen Police have arrested eight people between the ages of 27 and 71 and charged them with collecting and being a conduit for millions of kroner designed for the Kurdish terrorist organisation PKK.

A news release from the Copenhagen force says that the arrests were made following a lengthy investigation into a “group of people, primarily Turkish nationals of Kurdish descent.”

“The investigation began, among other reasons, as a result of the information that became available to officers during the investigation of the case against ROJ-TV. There were indications that funds had been collected for the PKK for several years. At the same time there were indications that PKK-related people had provided funds for the PKK and ROJ TV,” says Deputy Ch. Insp. Jens Møller Jensen.

The police investigation is primarily looking into the 2009 to 2012 period. According to the report some DKK67million was collected within the Kurdish business community in Denmark - DKK21.8million in 2009, 18.3million in 2010, 12.1million in 2011 and some 15million in 2012.

According to the police, fund collection has been orchestrated by the PKK’s self-proclaimed Parliament in Denmark, which was established on Feb.5 this year. The report alleges that the PKK sent DKK140million to the PKK from 2009 to 2012.

Those arrested are to be presented in a remand hearing tomorrow.
