The Danish Security and Intelligence Service PET has arrested 14 people affiliated to the left wing extremist environment in Copenhagen on suspicion of planning politically motivated vandalism against police and other public authorities, according to a PET statement.

“PET’s view is that those arrested had plans during the night of carrying out coordinated and politically motivated vandalism targeted at, among others, police and other public authorities,” the PET statement said.

It added that those who had been arrested were seven men and seven women between the ages of 16 and 48 who were detained at various addresses in the capital.

“Investigations into the case at hand have convinced us that there are still groups associated with the left wing extremist environment in Denmark who wish to carry out organised vandalism and other forms of politically motivated crime,” the PET statement says.

The service says that the night’s arrests should be seen in connection with its efforts to take “precautionary measures against and prevent groups or individuals from carrying out criminal acts such as violence, threats or vandalism in order to achieve political or ideological goals”.

The statement gives no indication of what the group was planning, or where.
