Most of the 114 Hells Angels and Bandidos bikers who were detained by police yesterday in an operation designed to search biker clubhouses, have been released again.

By this morning almost 100 of those detained from 17 clubhouses on Zealand had been released, according to a tally of enquiries to police stations by politiken.dk.

Copenhagen Police alone had detained 39 bikers while officers went through their clubhouses with a fine-tooth comb.

The police operation came as there were fears that increasing violence could develop into a full-blown war between the groups, of the type experienced in the 1990s.

“We have sent a clear signal to them that we will not accept the conflict developing. We have shown that we are monitoring them closely and we will use the necessary operational and investigation resources,” says Dep. Ch. Insp. Lau Thygesen.

Central and West Zealand police have released 30 of the 33 bikers they detained yesterday, but three are to be presented in remand court in connection with a loaded pistol found during one of the searches.

In Wednesdays operation a total of three loaded pistols as well as knives, narcotics, axes, knuckle-dusters, cudgels, anabolic steroids and ammunition magazines were found.
