You may find red dust on your vehicle when you come home from work today – and if so, there’s a good explanation.

The Met Office says that blood rain is on its way – rain that contains Saharan sand and dust.

“It’s a phenomenon we see now and again when sand is pushed up into the atmosphere and the prevailing air currents are (northerly). The rain isn’t blood red, but has a pinkish tinge,” says Met Office Duty Officer Lars Henriksen.

The phenomenon is expected today and possibly also over the weekend.

Henriksen says northwestern regions can expect rain today and over the next couple of days, while eastern regions can expect some sunshine. Rain may spread to the rest of the country on Sunday.
