Bahrain’s Investcorp has bought a 70 per cent majority holding in Denmark’s iconic silversmith Georg Jensen from Axel for 140 million dollars, according to the Financial Times.

A silversmith, designer and sculptor, Georg Jensen founded his company in Copenhagen in 1904 and rapidly became known for the design and quality of silver products, jewellery, timepieces and Christmas decorations.

The company currently has some 100 outlets across the world and produces gold and silver jewellery at its own factory in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand, as well as in factories in Frederiksberg and Hjørring in Denmark.

Company revenues in 2011 were at DK847million.
