A police officer on the capital island Zealand has been found guilty of driving thousands of kilometres on private errands in two police cars and has been handed a six month suspended sentence.

The officer denies wrongdoing and has immediately appealed the Copenhagen Municipal Court sentence to the High Court.

According to the charge sheet, the 59-year-old officer frequently drove around on private business in two national police vehicles, clocking up 80,000 kilometres in just under five years. At sentencing, however, the number of kilometres was reduced by a couple of thousand.

The court was also found the officer guilty of using DKK9,600 worth of police petrol.
