Technical problems have made BaneDanmark stop services across most of the S-train network for the next couple of hours with the only service in operation as the ring service between Hellerup and Ny Ellerberg stations.

“Our forecast at the moment is that the trains will be stationary for a couple of hours and it will affect a lot of passengers for which we deeply apologise,” says Section Manager Claus Christiansen.

DSB says it envisages about 100,000 passengers will be affected as the service stoppage will also reach into the rush hour.

Services will also be subject to delays for some time after operation is resumed.

“As far as possible we will try to help passengers with information on how to get around, but this is bound to cause major inconvenience to our passengers,” Christiansen says.

Passengers are advised to take the bus or be patient.

“Where Intercity trains are available, passengers should take them or try to find buses that can service them,” Christiansen adds.

A third of the roof electricity contacts between live wires and S-trains have stopped working over the past couple of days, with BaneDanmark attempting to find out why.

“A wrecked contact means that the train in question cannot move and there is a risk that the live wire is pulled down. So it’s important to find what is causing the problem as quickly as possible,” Christiansen says.

“If we just continue we end up by wrecking all of the trains,” he says, adding that technical personnel has been sent out across the S-network to find the fault.
