Report: attempt to shoot Hedegaard

Someone has tried to shoot the chairman of the Free Press Society, according to a neighbour.

A neighbour to the chairman of the right wing Free Press Society, Lars Hedegaard, says that someone tried to shoot the controversial author who is outspokenly critical of Islam.

“I met Lars Hedegaard in the hall immediately after the shooting and he told me that someone had tried to shoot him and that the bullet went over his head,” the neighbour says.

The man said he had been in the shower when a shot was fired in the hallway. Shortly afterwards he met Hedegaard.

“He told me that a man had come with a package for him, and when he reached out for the package the person tried to shoot him,” the neighbour said, adding Hedegaard had been taken from the scene ‘for some sort of crisis help’.

Copenhagen Police said a shot was fired at 11.20 that did not hit its target. The shooter then tried to shoot again, but the pistol clicked without discharging a bullet and the man ran away. He is described as a 30-year-old man with thick dark hair.

According to the reports, the man was wearing a red, postman-like jacket and managed to gain access to the stairwell where he met Hedegaard and said he had a package to deliver.
