Young Danes out of Czech detention

Two young Danes have been released from detention in Prague.

Two young Danes who were detained in Prague on Wednesday night after a street fight in which a police officer was floored have been released, according to the Danish ambassador in the Czech capital.

“The two young men were released on Thursday evening and should be on their way home” Ambassador Christian Hoppe says.

The episode that resulted in their arrest took place on Wednesday night when a street fight broke out between Danes. At one point a Czech police officer intervened, but was floored by one of the Danes. The two young men are charged with a beach of the peace and attacking an officer on duty.

Czech police said the two had a blood-alcohol level of over two. If found guilty they can face up to four years in prison.

The episode was just one of several involving young Danes who have invaded Prague in connection with the winter holidays. Two young Danes have been stabbed in recent days – with perpetrators believed to be other young Danes. The two were briefly hospitalised.

Two hotels have also been vandalised by other groups of young Danes.
