Former Liberal Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has announced that he will be producing receipts in connection with his chairmanship of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) for public scrutiny this weekend.

“There is naturally a lot of interest in my activities at GGGI. I have nothing to hide, but need to have the information before I can answer,” Løkke Rasmussen says on his Facebook page.

Løkke Rasmussen says that he and Seoul-based GGGI Director Howard Bamsey will be holding a joint news conference in Copenhagen on Sunday.

“I look forward to answering questions from the media on Sunday when we have the relevant facts,” he adds.

Løkke Rasmussen’s decision to open his travel and ancillary costs for scrutiny comes following several days of controversy surrounding costs for his travel to the environmental and green growth NGO.

The decision also comes following demands from government parties that Løkke Rasmussen’s travel receipts should be made public, or that he should consider resigning his post as GGGI Chair.

“I think that overall Løkke (Rasmussen) seems untrustworthy for two reasons: the receipt issue and his duplicity in connection with what he says when he is out there as chairman of GGGI, and what he says as chairman of the Liberal Party,” Rasmus Helveg Petersen of the Social Liberal Party told Politiken earlier today.

Danish funding for the GGGI stands at DKK90 million in development aid funds over three years. Controversy has arisen following claims that Løkke Rasmussen’s 15 trips for GGGI from June 2012 to September 2013 have cost USD 190,722.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen has not broken any GGGI travel rules.

Controversy over travel costs has arisen due to the Liberal Party’s public expenditure thrift policy and suggestions that the development aid budget should be reduced. GGGI travel is in part funded by the Danish development aid budget.
