One of the Danish Navy’s most senior officers has been dismissed from NATO offices in Virginia in the United States, according to Ekstra Bladet.

The report says that Rear-Admiral Torben Ørting Jørgensen was sent home to Denmark two months ago and told not to return for repeatedly arguing with superiors.

A rear-admiral is the third highest-ranking officer in the Danish navy surpassed only by a vice admiral and an admiral. In army and air force terms, the rank is equal to a major general.

According to the newspaper’s sources, Ørting Jørgensen’s behaviour would not have had any consequences in the Danish military, but in the United States, which has a somewhat stricter hierarchical attitude towards rank and seniority, his arguments were seemingly unacceptable.

The Defence Ministry is currently discussing how to handle the situation, and will not comment on individual cases, the newspaper says.

Depite his removal, Rear-Admiral Torben Ørting Jørgensen is still to be found pictured on the Norfolk, Virginia website where he is described as Assistant Chief of Staff and the fourth highest officer in the chain of command behind an American USAF LtGen, a Canadian LtGen, an Italian Admiral and the USMC commander, General Mattis.
