In the old tapestry room of the Plaza Hotel you’ll find the well-assorted Library Bar in the best English style and where the young bartender has a good selection of hand-rolled cigars. Guests here are a mixture of hotel guests from all corners of the earth as well as locals of all ages who come at the weekends to hear live jazz or have a relaxed drink in the gentleman’s room after work.

When you sit in the dark library in one of the heavy leather sofas and enjoy a single malt surrounded by built-in bookcases, it seems that not much has changed since King Frederik VIII built the massive hotel in 1913.

The bar, however, was not furnished until 1970 – although you wouldn’t think so judging from the cracked paintings and old leather-bound books on the shelves.

Forbes Magazine has previously chosen the Library Bar as one of the world’s five best hotel bars. Suffice it to say that it’s one of Copenhagen’s best.
