The chairmen of Denmark’s four employment councils are warning that unemployment figures will jump in coming months.

Only ten percent of companies say they are preparing to hire more employees, while 40 percent say they plan to lay off staff in coming months, according to a Green’s poll of 852 chief executives for Børsen.

“Reality looks unfortunately worse than most of the forecasts currently suggest. Even though company forecasts have improved, that is not something that can be seen in the order books yet, so I don’t think we’ll be able to avoid seeing a new wave of layoffs in the coming period,” says Northern Jutland Employment Region Deputy Chairman Erik H. Andersen.
