Following last weekend’s shootings in the capital and suburbs, Copenhagen police have introduced non-due cause search zones in large parts of the capital, enabling officers to stop and search anyone in an attempt to reduce the number of weapons in circulation.
Apart from three shooting incidents over the weekend in which one young man died and two were injured, another incident took place in which a vehicle attempted to run down a gang-related man.
Copenhagen police believe the incidents are the result of conflicts between gangs in Copenhagen and the suburbs, with the most recent episodes bringing the number of incidents since the New Year to six.
The search zones that have been in place since 6 p.m. on Jan. 14 will continue until Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. and include the inner city, inner and outer Nørrebro, Nordvest, Emdrup, Brønshøj, Husum and Værløse as well as in suburbia at Værebro, Bagsværd and Kokkedal.
