Denmark’s Defence Command has begun a probe into some 75,000 documents about the war in Afghanistan that have been leaked through the Wikileak website and have caused uproar.

The documents provide hitherto unknown details about civilian losses, armed combat and questionable reports.

“First of all we want to find out where Danish soldiers are named. Then we will find out if there is new information. If there is, then we will investigate,” Defence Command Press Officer Henrik Mortensen tells Politiken.dk.

“There is an enormous amount of documentation with each possibly containing several pages. But we will be doing it as quickly as possible,” Mortensen says, but declines to comment on the fact that the documents have been leaked.

“The documents are there, and that is what we are relating to,” Mortensen says.

To date, the leaked documents have resulted in the Danish Defence Force being asked to explain what happened to a five-year-old child who is reported as having been killed during an exchange of fire with the Taleban.
