Denmark’s former Wimbledon tennis quarter-finalist and an icon on the Danish tennis scene Jørgen Ulrich has died at the age of 74 during a holiday in Greece earlier this month, it has been announced.

Although professionally prior to retirement having held posts as a legal expert for both the Export Credit Council and the PFA Pension group, Ulrich was best known in the public eye for his feats on the tennis court.

A central figure on the Danish national squad between 1954 and 1972, Ulrich won some 40 Danish senior titles and contested Wimbledon 21 times with his last appearance in 1972. He reached the last 16 and the quarter-finals on several occasions.

His aggressive, net-seeking style also stood him well on the indoor circuit, where he ranked among the best five in the world at the time.
