Transport Minister Carina Christensen has negotiated a parliamentary majority to further a project involving a bridge over the Fehmarn Belt between Denmark and Germany.

According to Ritzau, an international agreement regarding the bridge is to be signed between Christensen and her German colleague Wolfgang Tiefensee on Wednesday.

Toll bridge
The agreement involves a toll bridge, with users also paying for land works on the Danish side of the belt, meaning that improvements to the railway line from Ringsted to Rødby can also be financed using toll proceeds.

SocDems and SocLibs agree

The Social Democrats have supported the government in its negotiations for a bridge over Fehmarn throughout. The Social Liberals joined the agreement last week.

The bridge will cost DKK 32 billion and be ready in 2018.
