The Danish Data Protection Agency is asking Facebook whether it respects Danish legislation, following criticism that Facebook users have to renounce many of their rights when they enter a profile on the social network.

The Danish Consumer Council has previously attacked Facebook for its policies, but the Data Protectioin Agency declined a request last year to investigate whether Facebook came under Danish legislation.

The agency has now, however, sent a list of questions to Facebook – among other questions asking what is necessary to have a family member who has died removed from the network, as well as what information Facebook shares with third parties.

Facebook is also being asked whether the network is registered in an EU country and how and whether it adheres to Danish legislation on personal data protection.

There are more than two million Danes on Facebook out of a population of 5.5 million.
