Princess Marie and Prince Joachim left the national teaching hospital Rigshospitalet today carrying Denmark’s new prince out to meet the media for the first time.

Swathed in a blanket, the young prince, who was born early on May 4, was fast asleep in the arms of his French-born mother.

The child, Prince Joachim’s first with his second wife, has not yet been publicly named.

Prince Joachim, the second son of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, has two other sons – Prince Felix and Prince Nikolaj - from his previous marriage to the Countess Alexandra.
