The animal welfare spokesmen for the Social Democratic and Socialist People’s parties are calling for action to be taken against one of the royal dogs, which attacked and bit a Royal Guardsman over the Whitsun weekend.

“Even Prince Henrik’s dog must behave properly. There’s no difference between being a royal and a commoner dog,” says Social Democratic Animal Welfare Spokesman Bjarne Laustsen according to bt.dk.

Prince Henrik is the Royal Consort and married to Queen Margrethe II.

The Socialist People’s Party’s Karina Lorentzen Dehnhardt agrees, but goes further, suggesting that Evita – the pooch in question – should be put down if it transpires that she was also the dog responsible for an incident in February last year when another Royal Lifeguard was attacked.

“If it’s the same dog that has drawn blood again, it should be put down. It should simply be put down if it can’t be controlled,” she tells bt.dk.

The incident came as the Social Democratic, Socialist People’s and Danish People’s parties reached agreement on proposals to make it easier to order the destruction of dogs that savage people or other animals.
