Walking around central Copenhagen can give you the impression that the whole city is the set for an historical play, with its cobblestones, age-old churches, strange cornices and timber-framed houses.

Well, hop onto the metro from Kgs. Nytorv, lean back for 12 minutes and get off at the Ørestad metro station, and you’ll see a new and emerging district of Copenhagen.

Next to the station there’s the enormous hulk of the Fields shopping centre; along the tracks the beautifully-designed Ørestad Gymnasium high school and most famous of all, the combined housing and parking complex of the VM Bjerget which is covered with roof terraces with gardens.

Everyone should do themselves the pleasure of ‘climbing’ the mountain by the stairs that lead up to the 10th floor and from which there is a wonderful view over the city. This is a complex that puts you in a good mood.

In 2008, VM Bjerget was crowned the best housing complex in the world.

VM Bjerget, Ørestad Boulevard 55, 2300 København S
