A new book by the author and journalist John Lindskog is suggesting that Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is likely to become the first Danish monarch to abdicate.

Reported in the tabloid B.T., the book suggests that the Royal Consort Prince Henrik, who is 75, has such a yearning for his native France that he plans to move to his Château de Cayx near Cahors. The book suggests that Queen Margrethe, who will be 70 in April 2010, would abdicate in order to move with her husband.

“This will happen in connection with The Queen’s 70th birthday on April 16, 2010 or perhaps before that, depending on conditions,” Lindskog writes.

“It is no secret that The Prince has been feeling tired for quite some time. He simply feels that he has done his duty and at the age of 75 feels that he is ready to retire…. The Prince has never hidden the fact that the wet Danish winters are an abomination to someone like him who likes the sun and heat, and that the mild, dry climate in his native region near Cahors in Southern France are much more to his liking. He wants to end his time on this earth in his native region looking after his grapes,” the book claims.

Lindskog tells B.T. that his sources tell him that Queen Margrethe would not want to be without her husband, and would follow him.

“According to my sources, Prince Henrik will be moving to France irrespective of what happens. And my sources, who know them both, say that (Queen) Margrethe would not be able to manage without him and is therefore considering abdicating and moving with him,” Lindskog tells B.T.
