Danske Bank returned a DKK 1.1 billion pre-tax profit in the Third Quarter, resulting in an after-tax result of DKK 583 million.

Overall, the first nine months of 2009 saw pre-tax earnings of DKK 3.5 billion with an after-tax result of DKK 1.3 billion.

”The result is a little better than expected and acceptable given the difficult economic conditions,” says Danske Bank in its report.

The bank’s result, however is still heavily affected by major losses in its loans portfolio – with Third Quarter writedowns of DKK 6.2 billion. The first nine months of 2009 overall have seen writedowns of DKK 20.7 billion kroner compared with writedowns in the same period in 2008 of DKK 2.9 billion in bad loans.
