A Danish student journalist who had been reported missing in the Iranian capital is reported by the Danish Journalists Association to have been detained during a demonstration in Teheran.

Niels Krogsgaard is a student journalist doing his finals at the University of Southern Denmark and is in Teheran with his student colleague Henrik Fallesen to write a final dissertation on Iranian politics.

Reports of his detention come from the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in Brussels.

IFJ Middle East Coordinator Monir Zaarour tells politiken.dk that Krogsgaard was arrested during a demonstration in Teheran last Wednesday.

“Eyewitnesses saw Niels Krogsgaard’s arrest during the demonstration. But who arrested him and which prison he is in remains unclear,” Zaarour says, adding that several other journalists were detained during the demonstration.

Ritzau/AFP is reporting that according to the Iranian news agency FARS, one Japanese journalist as well as Canadian reporters and an Iranian journalist working for what are described as ‘sattelite channels’ have been arrested as they had been reporting on demonstrations in Iran without permission.
