The Social Democrats and the Liberals seem likely to sweep into most mayoral posts in Tuesday’s local council elections according to a new election forecast in Mandag Morgen.

The forecast, carried out by Århus University Electoral Researcher Søren Risbjerg Thomsen, gives the two parties 90 local council mayoral seats, leaving only eight for other parties. Other parties currently command 17 mayors.

”Bloc politics has moved into Denmark during the Fogh government and that is having its effect on local councils,” says Prof. Risbjerg Thomsen.

SF rockets forward
While most mayors seem likely to go to the Social Democrats and Liberals, Risbjerg Thomsen says that the Socialist People’s Party is likely to be the main victor in the elections, striding ahead in all 98 local councils apart from three.

The Conservatives and Social Liberals on the other hand are forecast a bad election. Conservative mayors in Helsingør, Odense, Allerød, Høje-Taastrup and Lyngby-Taarbek are said to be in the balance.
