President Obama will be in Copenhagen for a day at the beginning of the COP15 United Nations Climate Summit before travelling on to Oslo to receive his Nobel Peace Prize, according to Reuters citing American government spokesmen .

The COP15 meeting takes place from December 7 – 18. According to the report, Obama will be in Copenhagen for one day on December 9, prior to leaving for Oslo where he is to receive the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony is always held in Oslo on December 10, the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of dynamite. It is unclear why Nobel decided in his will that the peace prize should be awarded in Oslo, while all other Nobel prizes are awarded in Stockholm.

According to the report, Obama is not expected to return to Denmark at the end of the COP15 conference. Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has sent 193 invitations to heads of state and government to attend the final two days of the climate summit. So far 60 have said they will come.

The COP15 Copenhagen visit will be the second time that Obama visits the Danish capital this year. Previously he took part in unsuccessful efforts to win the 2016 Olympic Games for Chicago at the International Olympic Committee meeting in Copenhagen at the beginning of October.
