A burst water pipe at Aalborg University during the night has caused extensive damage and destroyed electronic equipment and instruments valued at between 30 and 60 million kroner.

The basement area, which is said to be larger than a soccer pitch, was flooded under one-and-a-half metres of water, according to Nordjyske Tidende. The basement supplies two institutes at the university with both water and electricity.

Apart from the extensive damage to installations, research also appears to have been lost. Among other losses, a Ph. D. student has lost more or less 2½ years of work, including a measuring instrument costing DK 2 million.
