The Danish Finance Ministry’s Deputy Permanent Secretary Per Callesen has been appointed to the position of Executive Board Director of the International Monetary Fund, according to Berlingske Business.

Since 2003, Callesen’s areas of responsibility have included International economic relations, the IMF, the EU, EMU, the OECD and Nordic-Baltic Cooperation.

The IMF Executive Board is responsible for conducting the day-to-day business of the IMF. It is composed of 24 Directors, who are appointed or elected by member countries or by groups of countries, and the Managing Director, who serves as its Chairman. The Board usually meets several times each week. It carries out its work largely on the basis of papers prepared by IMF management and staff.

Callesen is to take over his post from January 1, when Denmark takes over the rotating leadership of the Nordic and Baltic Constituency on the IMF Board, which is currently held by Jens Henriksson of Sweden.
