Some 599 companies went bankrupt in November – the highest number ever for a single month, according to the credit and market information company Experian.

Geographically, the Copenhagen metropolitan area was hardest hit in November with 279 bankruptcies while Funen saw the biggest increase compared with the same month last year. The Faroe Islands and Greenland have also seen a relatively major increase in bankruptcies.

Northern Jutland, on the other hand, seems to be doing better, with a drop in the number of companies being liquidated.

Hotels and restaurants
The hotel and restaurant segment is hardest hit with 36 companies having gone bankrupt – twice the number compared with the same month last year.

Other service companies are also feeling the crunch. Hairdressers and companies involved in IT repairs and maintenance have also seen a large number of bankruptcies.

At the same time, the number of entrepreneur upstarts is falling. November saw 1,290 upstarts compared with 1,715 in November last year.
