The European Union will be providing EUR 7.2 billion over the next three years to help developing countries in their efforts to mitigate climate change, according to Denmark’s Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (Lib).

The funds will predominantly be made available to those developing countries hardest hit by climate change and with fewest funds to pay for projects.

“We stress that this is for the most vulnerable and poorest countries,” Løkke Rasmussen says at a news conference in Brussels.

He says it has not been difficult to get the other EU countries to commit themselves.

“I do not have the same picture of difficulty in reaching agreement. If you worked out the hourly wage of this, you would have good pay as a fundraiser,” Løkke Rasmussen says.
