Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen got the thumbs down from Danish voters in a weekend poll following the result of the COP15 Climate Summit.

Almost half of those polled were dissatisfied with the result of the conference, with only nine percent satisfied, according to the Rambøll poll carried out for Jyllands-Posten.

At the same time, only a third of those asked said that Løkke Rasmussen (Lib) had successfully managed his task as chair of the Climate Summit, while 65 percent were satisfied with the way in which Climate Summit Minister Connie Hedegaard (Cons) had managed her task.

Hedegaard will be moving to Brussels in the New Year as Denmark’s EU commissioner, taking over the post of EU Climate Commissioner.

The prime minister has declined to comment on the poll as such, but in an interview with Jyllands-Posten says that there had been a danger of no accord at all at the summit, which ended with one of the largest-ever conventions of heads of state and government.

“We may have offended Sudan’s U.N. Commissioner on an issue of etiquette, and there may have been a better impression of me in Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba and Sudan if we hadn’t done it. There could also have been a better impression of me in the final 24 hours, I admit. But then there would have been no result at all. There would have been nothing,” Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen tells Jyllands-Posten.
